Beatitudes
Matthew 5:3-12 NASB
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
O :
Matthew 5:3-12 is the Beatitudes which describe the character and Characteristics of Christians.
[ Extracted from Bible Hub ]
Our Saviour here gives eight characters of blessed people, which represent to us the principal graces of a Christian.
A :
I have to be like these eight characters to be a true Christians.
It is because it describe the character and Characteristics of Christians.
That is what God wants us to be.
I have to follow the principal of these characteristic of Christians in these passage.
First, the word translated “blessed” is one that has the general meaning of “happy” or “joyful.” It is a spiritual blessedness, a divine satisfaction that comes from a right relationship with God.
Verse 3
When Jesus says, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of He is declaring that, before we ca heaven,” n enter God’s kingdom, we must recognize the utter worthlessness of our own spiritual currency and the inability of our own works to save us.
1) I must recognize my spiritual poverty before I can come to God in faith to receive the salvation He offers.
Verse 4
The term mournmeans “to experience deep grief.” In keeping with His theme of spiritual blessedness, Jesus seems to indicate that this mourning is due to grief over sin.
Those who learn to mourn over their own sin find the heart of God. And intimate fellowship with God is the very foundation of true happiness.
2) I have to confess, Repent and ask for forgiveness.
So that Jesus can wash my sins away using His blood.
Then I can have an intimate fellowship with God.
Verse 5
Meekness is humility toward God and toward others. It is having the right power to do something but refraining for the benefit of someone else.
Meekness models the humility of Jesus Christ.
3) I have to be humble and gentle.
I must humble before the Lord.
At the same way, I must also be humble towards people.
Because Jesus model humility towards us.
Verse 6
We need to be hungry and thirst for righteousness.
Thirst for God and hungry for Him
4) I always must have a spiritual hunger for Him.
And really thirst for righteousness.
Verse 7
To be merciful is to show forgiveness and compassion to those in need. Jesus frequently spoke of this trait.
We are blessed if we are merciful because mercy is something God Himself displays.
5) I must be merciful towards people.
Forgive those who have hurt us and love them back.
I have to show compassion to those who are in need.
I have to how the love and care towards people.
Verse 8
Pure in heart means to be clean, blameless, unstained from guilt.
Being pure in heart involves having a singleness of heart toward God. A pure heart has no hypocrisy, no guile, no hidden motives. The pure heart is marked by transparency and an uncompromising desire to please God in all things. It is more than an external purity of behavior; it is an internal purity of soul.
6) I have to have a pure, clean heart.
God sees our heart.
If my heart is dirty, hurt, and etc
I have to ask God to heal them and cleanse my heart.
I will always ask God to help to build a pure and innocent heart that He wants.
Verse 9
Jesus laid down His life to make peace between God and sinners, and when we can carry that message of peace to others, we are peacemakers.
Only children of God can bring the peace of knowing God to others.
Those who bring the wonderful message of God's peace to the world are "peacemakers," and Jesus calls them the "children of God."
7) I have the spread the Gospel.
Bringing peace to the world.
Jesus is peace and I am a peacemaker.
I am child of God.
I will bring peace to the world.
Verse 10 and 11
There is nothing in our sufferings that can merit of God; but God will provide that those who lose for him, though life itself, shall not lose by him in the end.
Blessed Jesus! how different are thy maxims from those of men of this world! They call the proud happy, and admire the gay, the rich, the powerful, and the victorious. May we find mercy from the Lord; may we be owned as his children, and inherit his kingdom. With these enjoyments and hopes, we may cheerfully welcome low or painful circumstances.
8) I must not be afraid to share the gospel and the word of God.
God make me brave, no fear can handle.
I must not be afraid of people, for I have to be afraid of God and nothing.
I know God will provide me to fight for His righteousness.
I am child of God and I will inherit His kingdom.
